Minecraft Reaching 54 Million Sold, Console Editions Pass PC

Popular blocky sandbox game Minecraft is closing in on 54 million copies sold across all platforms, according to Mojang's Patrick Geuder, who also added via Twitter that the console (Xbox 360 and PS3) versions of the game have now surpassed sales of the PC and Mac versions. The game will be available on Xbox One, PS4 or Vita in August. The Vita version of the game is cross-buy compatible and free for those who have the PS3 version. Xbox 360 and PS4 owners who have the game on their Xbox 360 or PS3 will be able to download the latest versions for $5.

The first time players experienced Minecraft were in May 2009 when the alpha version was made available, a little more than two years before its official release in November of 2011. Mojang and Markus "Notch", Persson, the creator of Minecraft, have achieved many milestones in sales. Recently, Mojang reported that 15 million copies were sold of the PC version. The Xbox 360 version sold 12 million copies, and the Pocket Edition for iOS or Android has reached 21 million.  swissrocketman.com [Image: Mojang]
